When a part is forged, a stronger and denser material structure is produced as the metal grains flow along the contour of the part. We use alloy steels such as 4140 chromium and 42CrMo for hot forging, both of which have excellent fatigue resistance and tensile strength. Raw materials are heated, forged under high pressure, and then finely machined to precise tolerances. Then, without sacrificing the toughness of the core, we use heat treatment to improve the surface hardness. This combination ensures that the limiter can withstand continuous spring loads without failure.

The final stage of machining is also crucial. We used multi-axis CNC machine tools to design precise geometries for retainers and spring pockets. Because poor fit may lead to premature wear, spring misalignment, and even valve shedding, these tolerances are essential.

We coat the coating according to customer specifications to prevent surface corrosion; they are usually electrophoretic, galvanized or black oxide. These coatings protect the retainer from heat, oil and water cycles, which is typical in engine settings. The end product is a forged retainer, which fits well, requires little maintenance, and performs well over time.

The design of most OE valve spring retainers is economical. Therefore, they often lack long-term durability. At Ningbo Shengfa, we improved the OE design, rather than simply copying them. Our engineers use CAD modeling and FEA simulation to check each OE component. We examined the deformation, material fatigue and stress concentration under cyclic loading.

Based on this data, we strengthened the weak part of the design. In order to reduce the initiation of cracks, we can round sharp edges or thicken materials in areas prone to stress. In order to assist the valve train with faster speed and smaller inertial motion, we even reduce the excess mass of the performance engine. Longer service life, higher reliability at high speeds, and compatibility with existing equipment and reinforced springs are all benefits of these enhancements.
